LUCKNOW: A human life is worth 50 paise in Ulta Pradesh. If you don’t believe it, read on: a dispute over payment of 50 paise less to buy a sachet of gutka in Rampur left a youth dead and his father-in-law critical.
It was worse in Bulandshahr where a paan shop owner and his associate were shot when the shopkeeper did not attend to a customer, wanting to buy a match box, as promptly as the latter wanted him to.
As per reports reaching the director general of police headquarters here on Thursday, the Rampur incident took place in Jwala Nagar locality under the Civil Lines area where a local youth Sunil stopped at a small general store and asked for a sachet of gutka and handed over a Re 1 coin to the shopkeeper – Rajendra Prasad (50). Handing over the sachet, Rajendra asked him to pay 50 paise more as the pouch was priced at Rs 1.50.
This reportedly left Sunil so enraged that he started hurling blows at the shopkeeper for his ‘audacity’ to ask him for more money. By this time, Rajendra’s son-in-law Hemant Saxena (35) who was inside the house adjacent to the small shop, rushed out to rescue the old man, said senior superintendent of police (SSP), Rampur, Ramit Sharma.
However, things took a turn for the worse when Sunil attacked Hemant with a knife. Hemant suffered three stab wounds – on his stomach, neck and chest – and hit the ground bleeding profusely. As Hemant’s wife and daughter tried to stop Sunil, he attacked them as well. The two however escape narrowly. Sunil thereafter fled the scene. “A case of murder has been lodged in connection with the incident and we’ll hopefully arrest him very shortly,” the SSP told to News agency.
The double murder in Bulandshahr was reported from Nagla Ugrasen hamlet under Bibinagar police station of the district where a local youth Brij Pal arrived at the paan shop of one Rajesh to buy a matchbox. Rajesh, who was attending to another customer, asked him to wait. This left Brij Pal so agitated that he grabbed Rajesh by his hair and started kicking him.
As Rajesh raised an alarm, another shopkeeper Shakti Singh rushed to his rescue and tried to catch hold of Brij Pal. The latter however retaliated with a countrymade pistol and shot the two from a point blank range. “They both died on the spot,” Bulandshahr SSP, RKS Rathore said.
