The statement of 29th anniversary memorial service of a Chin Student Hero Salai Tin Maung Oo

New Delhi,
June 26, 2005
We, all “Exiled-Chin Students”, are willing to show our sorrowful feeling in connection with one of heroic outstanding leaders, Salai Tin Maung Oo, who sacrificed his admirable live in fighting against brutal military rulers led by ex-dictator General Ne Win, who illegally seized the sovereignty power of the State from the civilian government, democratically led by ex-Prime Minister U Nu (deceased) on 2nd March 1962.  Salai Tin Maung Oo who was an outstanding heroic ethnic Chin students’ leader, who was secretly hanged at Insein Jail (Burma’s notorious jail for political prisoners)  on 26th June, 1976[to be confirmed the date – 24 June].  Before his death, he heroically and courageously proclaimed or shouted piercingly the following slogans to his beloved comrades and military butchers that:

“I shall never kneel down under your soldiers’ boot” and cried,

“Comrades, they are killing me without knowledge of people”.

We, all “Exiled – Chin Students”, firmly believe that the said slogans could never be dispelled and disappeared from the heart of the entire oppressed people of Burma by any powerful creator.  We are accepting his braveness for fighting against the military rulers as our guideline to restore a genuine democracy and human rights in the form of future “Federal Union of Burma”.

We also believe that we can never get ever lasting peace and tranquility without establishing an authentic “Federal Union” based on the principles of political equality and self-determination of ethnic nationalities who are Kachin, Karen, Karenni, Chin, Baman, Rakhaing, Mon and Shan due to our country is based on multi-ethnic Nation states.

For rebuilding the “Union of Burma”, We, “All Exiled Chin students”, strongly demand to the Military Regime of Burma ( the Junta group or illegal military government) must follow below demands:-

1. To be released Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, U Khun Htun Oo and all the political prisoners immediately.

2. To hold, at the earliest date, the tripartite dialogue, as called for by the UN resolution annually since 1994.

And we call international community and democratic nations to support the “Chin Students’ Activities” and “Democracy Restoration” in Burma; and to empower us in expanding require education and knowledge.
